The Evil Grandson of Tom Tom Blues
20?? - Maybe Someday Records

After last year's disastrous venture into Swahili Polka, Roe and company return strong with what is probably their strongest release since 1987's eponymous Island album release. Their fifth EP to date, the band virtually explodes with eclectic, visceral pop experimentation. With gorgeous lines that resonate with the news pages, "Man this country really stanks / we're robbin' the poor and robbin' the banks" Roe clearly proves that once again his band is just about as cool as its secular counterparts. Roe has obviously been listening to a lot of Japanese speed metal and Percy Faith - their signature sounds are all over this record. Still, the album largely sucks. Maybe someday Roe can make an album more like the stuff he did nearly 20 years ago.
